Just done a fantastic New Years Charter in the British Virgin Islands. With a pickup and drop-off from St Thomas then overnighting in Francis Bay St John, Norman Island, Peter Island, Long Bay Virgin Gorda, White Bay Guana Island & Sandy Spit. Our guests had a fantastic time check out their testimonial below:
“Dear Mark & Lynn,
A lovely week, made so by your every attention, your good company and not to be overlooked Mark’s cuisine. To have found the BVI after Irma was, from our entirely selfish perspective, delightful, yet tempered by the knowledge that many suffered and lost. That said, to have seen these pretty islands uncrowded and at natures own ease, was of particular pleasure. Pacific Wave is a lovely boat.
All the best Claude.”

Pacific Wave is back in the BVI now and the islands look very green again despite the tree level being a lot shorter so the properties look more prominent. A massive operation is currently taking place to remove all damaged vessels from the marinas prior to the New Year charter season getting underway.
The snorkeling is reasonable in terms of visibility however the reefs have sustained damage to the coral and sea fans where the seabed has been smashed by the storms, however this does make spotting the fish easier and there are plenty of fish out there. The corals will return it’s just a matter of time, and if you look closely you can find Christmas Tree Worms and Feather Duster Worms that have survived.
The anchorages are extremely quiet with only a few yachts around, however I’m sure that by next week the yachts will start returning ready for New Year. The bays are beautiful. It is like stepping back in time prior to the BVI expanding with its massive bareboat charter industry.
Bars and restaurants are reopening on a daily basis, which is great news!
In St Thomas and St John a tremendous amount of work is being undertaken on both islands to restore power. In the BVI again a tremendous effort is in place to restore power in the BVI with teams working hard on the islands. Parts of Road Town on Tortola now have power and parts of Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda also have electricity.
Cell phones work well in both the USVI and the BVI due to the temporary towers that have been erected and being powered by generators.
Don’t miss out on visiting the beautiful British Virgin Islands this winter the people of the BVI are waiting to welcome you with open arms they need your business! Check out our latest blogs as we sail around St John and the BVI and report on the condition of the anchorages, see for yourself how well the islands have recovered.
Pacific Wave will be based in the BVI until mid July 2018 as usual prior to sailing south again for hurricane season. We are available for BVI Crewed Yacht Charters with pickups and drop-offs in the BVI or from Yacht Haven Grande Marina St Thomas.
Join us in the BVI soon!

The terrible, heart-wrenching storms that affected the Virgin Islands this summer have induced a succession of different emotions in us, the crew of Pacific Wave. Fear for the lives and lively-hoods of the Virgin Islanders we have grown to love, pride in the fortitude and resilience of our friends in their determination to recover, and guilt that we had taken the boat to safety and weren’t there to help.
Over time we realised that senseless platitudes won’t help and that the best and most useful thing we could do is to return, charter, and bring guests and revenue to the islands.
Pacific Wave was undamaged by both Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria while in the complete safety of Marigot Bay, St Lucia.
After a Thanksgiving charter commitment in the Grenadines we intend to return to the BVI in the first week of December and, although already booked for New Year, we will be available for St Thomas or BVI pickups from the middle of the month.
We are confident that, thanks to the hard work of those in the USVI and the BVI who are bravely overcoming unimaginable handicaps, we will be able to offer a charter experience that equals if not surpasses those that have gone before.
A genuine and heart-felt thanks from us on Pacific Wave to the people of the Virgin Islands.
