Sailing in the BVI onboard SY Pacific Wave

Why rent a Bareboat when you can rent a Luxury Crewed Yacht

Why rent a Bareboat Yacht Charter for your next vacation when you can charter a fully crewed 72ft Italian Luxury Sailing Yacht for the same price!

Pacific Wave on the dock at Scrub Island Marina BVI

It’s unbelievable that the cost of a basic 40ft bareboat catamaran works out to be virtually the same price as a luxury yacht charter aboard the beautiful Pacific Wave. To rent a basic 40ft catamaran for 7 nights the price is around $9,000 from most charter companies. Then you add food, wines & bar, insurance, and taxes, a skipper and chef and the price will be around $14,000.

Cockpit table onboard Pacific Wave for alfresco dining

So instead of sailing around the British Virgin Islands onboard a white fiberglass basic catamaran this winter, you could be sailing around the islands onboard a luxury 72ft yacht with professional crew to look after you. Be on the yacht that everyone wants to photograph, enjoy the luxury light wood interior compared to the white fiberglass walls of a bareboat yacht. Relax on deluxe cushions in the cockpit, dine on award winning cuisine enjoying the luxury of fine Villeroy Boch china and crystal glasses instead of the standard plastic plates supplied onboard a bareboat.

Sailing down the Sir Francis Drake Channel onboard SY Pacific Wave

When you charter Pacific Wave you also have the added benefits of eco friendly watersports equipment and snorkeling equipment being provided onboard for your use. All of your meals onboard are included in the charter fee; a free ships bar is included offering house wines, local spirits, local beers and soft drinks. All the running cost of the yacht and dinghy are included as are the cruising taxes and permits.

With Pacific Wave moored safely in Francis Bay we decided to kayak ashore and take a hike over to Waterlemon Bay to see how the bay and the Annaberg Sugar Plantation looks now, 100 days after Hurricane Irma ravaged the islands.

As soon as you reach the road you immediately see one of the old sugar mill buildings that has lost it’s roof to Irma, but it’s structure still looks good.

Walking down the road a little future you can see how the hillside is now two-tone where the winds from Irma hit one side of the hillside stronger than the other, check out the different shades of green and brown. A massive clean up effort was taking place to remove the trees that had fallen across the road and to clear the way for vehicle access to the Annaberg Sugar Plantation.

Sadly there were numerous shipwrecks along the way in Mary Creek, we counted four catamarans but there could be more.

Approaching the Annaberg Sugar Plantation we were so pleased to see these three donkeys that had survived the hurricanes. They appeared to be just as pleased to see us as they wondered over to see if we had any food to offer. We had nothing for them but they were happy to be stroked.

Maho Bay did not weather the storms as well as Francis Bay, however a tremendous amount of work has been undertaken to clean the beach and it is now officially open. Maho Beach has suffered a lot of erosion so all of the Sea Grapes have been flattened, they’ve been picked up by the storm and laid flat on their backs. The road behind Maho Beach is totally visible at present due to the lack of vegetation. The pretty old buildings in the south corner of the beach were severely damaged by the storms so they have been totally demolished.  Great news Maho Beach is now officially open!

Now we are going to sail to the St Vincent and the Grenadines island chain, with our first port of call being Union Island. Customs and Immigration duties are undertaken at the airport at Clifton Harbour and you can take a stroll around this tiny village or enjoy a rum punch on Janti’s Happy Island. Happy Island is the most unique bar in the Caribbean being built from conch shells and it is located on top of the reef off Clifton Harbour. If you are very lucky the kitesurfers will be out entertaining you as you sip your cocktail. Once clearance is complete we will sail back around to the west side of the island to Chatham Bay where we will anchor for the evening. This crescent shaped bay has great snorkeling as well as a good selection of tiny local beach bars where you can enjoy a local Carib beer or a cocktail and watch the sunset behind Pacific Wave.

After lunch we will sail to Clifton Harbour on Union Island to undertake customs duties.
